Skittles has started a new meme for every Tuesday called Heads or Tails visit her blog for instructions. Basically she gives us a word and we can do whatever we like with it. That can't be too hard, can it? This week the subject is 'Pet Peeves.
Vacuuming up dog hair
Fishing dog hair out of my coffee
De-tangling dog hair
Dog that panics at the slightest thing
Dogs that think it is their duty to bark at every falling leaf
Dog that jumps out of her pen when someone shoots a gun
Dog that likes to roll in bear poop or dead fish
Dog that has to accompany you every where, even the bathroom
Dog that insists on sleeping in the bathroom
Dog that likes to dig anywhere
Dog that is an Alpha female and has to be top dog
Dog that takes instant likes and dislikes to people
Dog that turns up her nose disdainfully if you tell her off
Dog that thinks she is an equal and has a mind of here own
Dog who runs up the road and keeps going even when you call her
Dogs, I prefer cats, as I tell her lots
Anyway on the pet peeves theme I looked up the expression "Hair of the dog that bit you", because having a hangover must be a pet peeve also.
The use of the phrase as a metaphor for a hangover treatment dates back to the time William Shakespeare. In the Dictionary of Phrase and Fable (1898) "In Scotland it is a popular belief that a few hairs of the dog that bit you applied to the wound will prevent evil consequences. Applied to drinks, it means, if overnight you have indulged too freely, take a glass of the same wine next morning to soothe the nerves. 'If this dog do you bite, soon as out of your bed, take a hair of the tail in the morning.'"
