It's a depressing thought

Already we are past the longest day. Up here that means the sun is out at about 3 am and doesn't go down till about 10:30 pm, so I have to sleep with the shades down as it is too light at bedtime. Now that the first day of summer has passed we are heading towards the shortest day which means we need the lights on most of the day, switching them off around 10:30 am and putting them on again about 3pm. A complete reversal.

We have been talking about new light fixtures since last winter but knowing that we would not need them until this winter have put off purchasing new ones. The ones we have are just not doing the job, we need more light especially in the living room.

We have standing lamps but they just give light in specific areas and I feel we need ceiling light fixtures also to offset the depressing winter gloom. I don't know if a pair of matching chandeliers would do it, one in the dining room and one in the living room. I think it will be hard to find a good spot for one in the living room though. I guess we will have to check out the various home lighting stores and finally make a choice as in a few months we will have to put on the lights a lot earlier than we are tonight.

Yes, so sad when we hit the downward slide into the shorter days.

As for buying lighting fixtures ... now that's a pain! We went from store to store trying to find fixtures for this house. Lights were either cheap, cheap looking, way to large for the size of our place or just plain garish! No happy in-between! After much hemmming and hawing, we finally came away with not too bad of fixtures. One definitely needs replacing but it was one we didn't purchase!
